Abstract

Objective: This study was aimed to determine the point of

view of young population for male nurses who started to

provide services in patient care and treatment.

Methods: This descriptive study was carried out on young

adults who registered for summer courses of private institutions

in July 2012 carried out on young adults. The questionnaire

forms prepared by the researchers in the light of

the literature scanned by tem consisted of 7 items questioning

socio-demographic characteristics, and 21 propositions

regarding the men taking part in the nursing profession.

The data obtained as a result of the study were analyzed

using SPSS 17.0 software package program. In assessments

means, percentiles, chi-square tests were used.

Results: The 38.4 % of women, and 38.4% of men stated

that men nurses will develop the profession and the relationship

between the groups is statistically significant regarding

this proposition (p<0.05). Relatively higher proportion

of women thought that men should be in the nursing

profession.

Conclusion: The results obtained is pleasing in that nursing

profession which is seen as a traditional occupation

for women Within the modern nursing approaches, efforts

to minimize social prejudices are needed.
